Robotics and human fantasy

The field of robotics has been a fantasy for humans. We have always dreamt of a world where machines work by themselves, and we do not have to command them. It was more of a need to have a companion in the universe apart from ourselves. A fantasy stemmed from the fact that we are the only living and thinking beings in the whole universe. It was a desperate wish that we have someone else with whom we share this universe and our experiences.

Though this later developed into a different area of study, which dealt with the E.T. and the robots became the human slaves. Then we also fantasized that there would be a time when these robots would develop to the extent that they rule over the world and we humans become their slaves. Many comics’ books and cartoons were developed on this concept, where the machines and robots were shown to be emotional less proud dictators.

However, the actual robotics has been very different from the fantasy of ours. Robots are not just automated machines but software as well. They help us manage our work without having to mediate in the process. This area of robotics does not deal with the form of the robot, but the robotics here is all in the software.

If we go by what people generally perceive of robots, they always think of a human like machine that can move, use his limbs like a human, who is able to manipulate his environment and sense things, which is very intelligent and receptive, responds, and communicates like humans. However, actual robot is quite different from this fantasy. Here are many robots, which do confirm to the fantastical parameters of the nonprofessional, but there are many machines, which look nothing like this image. They are machines, which are automated and have a mind of their own to carry out the basic processes. For example, the robot arms that are used on the space ships to fix things in the space, then these machines are sent out and managed by the astronaut from the inside.

Then there are planes, which are working without any human pilot flying them. They can also be called as robots as they do not need any human to control it. All they need to do is to monitor it from a distance and the basic details are already fed into the system. This makes them work themselves with a little guidance from the humans. With the help of these robots, humans are no longer required to risk their lives in the wars. Hence, this has improved the human lives until date unlike our fantasies where they become uncontrollable tyrants! Hence, with the help of this field of science, the military missions have become safer and more effective.

These robots, which are used, for surveillance are also capable of firing some bobs in time of need. Soon we can imagine these machines doing all the dangerous work for us, and we would be handling all the brainwork.
